Neill Blomkamp will direct a new film in the Alien franchise, according to an Instagram post Wednesday.  Blomkamp posted an image by H.R. Giger, who did the designs for the first Alien film, and wrote, “Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien”

The film will be produced by Ridley Scott, and will be set after Prometheus 2, which Scott will produce and direct, according to Deadline.

Blomkamp’s directing career started with the critically acclaimed District 9, which he also co-wrote, and for which he received an Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nomination.  He wrote and directed Elysium, and co-wrote and directed Chappie, which will open March 6.

Prometheus was set in the Alien universe, but before the first movie, and the sequel will be in that earlier time frame as well.

Wonder Woman Film To Take Place In The 1920s

A Wonder Woman film is finally coming to screens in 2017, but according to the latest rumors, the film itself won’t take place in 2017 (or the present). Apparently the first Wonder Woman movie will take place in the 1920s.

In the film a man will arrive on Paradise Island, the home of Wonder Woman and her fellow Amazons, and his arrival will eventually lead Wonder Woman to leave the island and explore the world. The sequel will then take place in the 30s and 40s during World War II and the eventual third film will take place in the present day.

Some fans might wonder how Wonder Woman could have been around for so long without a mention of her in Man of Steel. I’m sure the films will have a way to make sure the continuity makes sense (at least I hope so).

The idea of Wonder Woman running around in times when women’s rights were much different than they are today would actually be really interesting. If done right, the films could really tackle something sorely missing in these superhero movies: a strong female character and her perspective of the world around her. And who wouldn’t want to see Wonder Woman possibly punching some Nazis, right?

Captain Apollo Death Revealed in ‘BSG’ Continuity

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new miniseries that will chronicle the death of Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica series continuity, launching in December.

The series will be written by Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, The Legion), with art by Dietrich Smith (Army of Darkness, Battlestar Galactica), and covers by Smith, Livio Ramondelli, Mike Mayhew, and a subscription variant by Ardian Syaf.

Captain Apollo was the central character of the original 1978 Battlestar Galacticaseries, but after it ended in 1979, Apollo did not return for the sequel series Galactica 1980, which was set several years in the future.  It was implied in the dialog that the hero starfighter pilot had died in the intervening years, but his fate was never overtly detailed.  This series will now fill in those gaps.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Announced For July 28, 2017

SDCC ’14: Gareth Edwards Confirms GODZILLA 2 Return; New Monsters Revealed

While the Godzilla reboot was mostly met with a very positive response, some criticized a lack of action. However, it sounds like the iconic monster will very much be the focus in the sequel as you can see from the Tweets below. As well as confirming that Gareth Edwards will return to direct the follow-up, a teaser played by Legendary Pictures revealed a number of other monsters who will be joining him. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the older movies, almost all of these names should be at least a little familiar and Godzilla will definitely have his hands (?) full whenever the movie is released. How do you guys feel about this news? Sound off below!
